About
The Round Bottom Company
Founder
and owner of The Round Bottom Company, Alan Vance brings
a versatile range of skills to the demanding field of construction
and historical preservation.
Alan
orginally studied fine arts, exploring art history, painting,
carpentry, ceramics and sculpture. Alan furthered his studies
as a graduate fine arts student and teacher at Miami University
(Oxford, Ohio).
During
his studies in Columbus, Alan worked as an assistant carpenter
where he restored box gutters for houses in German Village
— the nation’s largest privately restored historical
neighborhood.
Following
college, Alan returned to his family’s abandoned 1901
farmhouse in the round bottom area of Linwood, Kentucky
along the Green River. Alan is now devoted to its restoration
and is involved with the Nature Conservancy of Kentucky
to protect the Green River Watershed, improve wildlife and
grow native vegetation.
Alan
realized a great need for specialists in historical perservation
and in 1996 formed Vance Construction, later naming the
company after his family’s farm – The Round
Bottom Company. Alan and his team of trained construction
workers has since completed several significant historical
preservation projects.
